Vue of an Orange Orchard (& the
infamous non-sinkable trees!)

The peculiar story behind this orchard was how long it sat on my "vue
shelf" un-
finished... due to the fact that I hated the "telephone pole like" trunks
of the orange
trees, and that I could NOT sink them into the ground plane to make the trees more
accurate! I thought all the additional vegetation trees had some sort of coding that
kept the trees rooted to the ground plane, so I had given up in disgust. Not
only were
the trunks of the trees I had looked forward to the most, fat and unrealistic, but
not
getting them to go below ground.... well... ! Then one day, I had to reload my
windows
due to some corruption that occurred. (having nothing to do with vue). The next
time
I went to open my Vue 4, it half opened, and then I got the message to insert my
win98
disk!! Huh?? Vue wants my windows os disk?? I put the disk in, and said "yes I
want
to keep the original file" for 5 or 6 little kernels or something.... and then
vue finished
loading fine. I did not notice any difference in it or anything else. Days went
by... I
mentioned the tree thing at a forum and promised to test the other trees for this
problem
but first I had an idea! I would create a terrain, make it flat and then make a
"false
ground plane", apply my texture, raise up the oranges and squirrels... therefore
getting
the orange trees shortened! It was a royal pain and the image is not at all what it
started
out to be... I had put oranges on the tree using spheres, because the oranges on the
orange tree were really oddly placed..and hanging from "poles"!! (see image
below)
So I nabbed the orange texture, saved it, and applied to spheres... and began
building
an entire orchard! So here I was trying to get all my ground oranges up on the new
ground plane... and so on and so on!..... finally finished! I then had to darken the
trunks
to the realistic color of orange trees... clone out the odd poles the fruit hung
on... etc.
Then (!) I thought to test the other trees for this problem... the walnut tree sunk
nicely
and then I put the orange tree in the scene to show the difference... AND IT SUNK
BELOW THE GROUND plane!! huh??? So.. what, my vue had NEVER been working
right all this time??? Good old Vue... I love it, but it can be so darn
irritating at times!
And I had saved over the GOOD orange orchard image, months ago, never dreaming
vue would "accidentally" start working right in this area... argh!
THE BEFORE POST ORANGE TREES

I grew up in an area full of citrus trees... wish I had a REAL orange tree
model!
